The Coalition of Community Organizations USA,held its first General Assembly of Delegates in which they elected a Board of Directors that will stay in office for a period of one year. The goal of this non-governmental organization is to bring together social, cultural, sports, student, religious, labor and provincial organizations, among others.


Delegates representing member institutions with the right to vote participated in the General Assembly. They had a single slate and were elected unanimously. Their main goal will be to organize the community and educate and strengthen grassroots organizations to deal with their needs.

The elected Board of Directors are Alfredo Miases, general coordinator; Jesús Casanova, secretary of the organization; MiguelCruceta, treasurer; Santa Zapata, minutes and correspondence; Idalia Santana, policy and strategy; Nolagko Nolasco, media; Yolanda Santani, public relations; Tony Díaz, international relations; Francisco Rosado, intercommunity relations; Luís Johnson, art, culture and education and Randolfo Díaz, children’s affairs.


There are also coordinators like Victor N. Hiciano, for the Bronx; José A. Pérez, Manhattan; Carmen de la Rosa, Brooklyn; and members of different departments including Miguel A. López, Domingo Encarnación, Freddy de los Santos, Miguel Paulino, Martín Hidalgo, Publio Lorenzo, Loida Pérez, Carlos Espinal, Darío Abreu and Daniel Román.


Other departments were also formed by Jesús Pérez, Moisés González, Arlen Acosta, Lucía Toribio, Agueda Ureña, Rafael López, Lorenzo Chapman, Luís García, Pedro Peña, Miguel Román and Chú Merceces.


Member organizations participating included the Andrea P. Foundation, AcciónHainera, Club Villa Altagracia in the Exterior, Dominican Athletes, COPOLA, Miners Association San Juan de la Maguana Foundation, Macorís Del Mar Series 23 Club, theNew York State Fraternal Order of Police, which brings together the Dominican Police Officers of New York.


Also present with the right to speak and vote was the Association of Rio Arribenses in the USA, (ARENA), Neoyorkinos.com, Los Soneros, Committee of San Cristobal Natives, EnsancheOzama Foundation, Bienvenido Cruz Foundation (S.F.M), the Tamboril Community Center, Santa LucíaCultural Club, Dominican Esperanza Ambientaland the Brooklyn Athletic Club.


Other organizations participated as observers while some Dominican personalities in New York attended the event at the Andrea P. Culinary School Foundation in order to witness this historic process.
