International Book Fair Awards 2013 were presented

The Ministry of Culture presented cash prizes and certificates to the winners of the Awards for Journalism, Social Networks, Short Films and Literature of the Santo Domingo Book Fair 2013. These awards represented a total investment of RD$740,000 in payments to jurors and winners.


Valentín Amaro, Director of Books and Reading; Pedro Valdez, Executive Director of the FIL; and Pedro Núñez del Risco, Director of Events at the Ministry, chaired the ceremony which took place at the Culture Library, located in La Atarazana in the Colonial City.


The number of youth and adults who engage in cultural activities increases steadily, and in this way they contribute to building a country that develops and prepares internally through reading, literature and other disciplines.


The Youth Journalism Award in the category of general culture went to Lilian Gregorina Tejeda; in the social category the winner was Windler Soto Paula; in environment, Mariela Mejía; and in sports, Estefany Collado.


All these winners received a certificate and RD$25,000. In the case of Aileen Said Ceballos, who earned a honorable mention in the social category, she received a diploma and a collection of books. The Jurors were José Tejada Gómez, Director of the Department of Communication; Armando Rivera, and Pedro Valdez.


In Social Networks, the winners were Oscar Mendoza, in the category Facebook, and Sheilly Núñez in the category Twitter. Each of them won RD$25,000. The Jurors were Alexéi Tellerías, Romina Bayo and Valentín Amaro.


The FIL’s (International Book Fair for its acronym in Spanish) Short Film Award went to Alejandro Javier Hiraldo, who won the Grand Prize Book Fair with RD$75,000. Mario Brinio Villasenín won the Francisco Palau Award, with RD$50,000; and Luis Corporán won the Jean Louis Jorge Award, which included RD$25,000.


In this category the Jurors were: Tony Brito, from the Department of Audiovisuals, and Bladimir Abud and Manuel Llibre.


Argenida Romero won the Grand Prize for Youth Poetry, which included RD$75,000. The Jurors were Frank Martínez, Rafael Rosario and Marivell Contreras.


The Grand Prize for Youth Short Story went to Isidro Jiménez Guillén, with a cash prize of RD$50,000. The following participants won honorable mentions and RD$10,000 each: Vicente Arturo Pichardo, Kianny Antigtua, Joel Marte Torres, Raysa Pimentel, Eswin Ricardo y Moisés Santana. The Jurors were: Ibeth Guzmán, Joan Prats, and Daniela Cruz.
