Puerto Plata Has Outstanding Attendance at EXPO CIBAO 2013

With a great display of color, flavors, tradition and information materials, the Puerto Plata Destination achieved outstanding participation in the Dominican Republic’s largest multi-sector trade fair, Expo Cibao 2013.

Through the Provincial Coordination Bureau for the Sustainable Tourism of the province, participatinginstitutions exhibited innovations that includedPuerto Plata’s commercial and tourism offerings to the thousands of people walking the city’s streets during the groundbreaking event. 

With the slogan “Puerto Plata is good, experience it,” interactive activities, exhibitions of goods from the ten provincial Municipal Units for Community Heritage (UMPC in Spanish), food tastings, sales, and cultural activities were among the other options that led to an outstanding presence at the fair.

The 26th edition of Expo Cibao was held in the La Barranquita de Santiagosports complex from Wednesday, September 11 to Sunday, September 15, the days when the UMPCpresented an attractive program for the public in ten exhibit modules that reflected the efforts of this integrated project.

On Friday, September 13 a guided presentation was given to tour operators and travel agents from the entire Northern Region to explain the projects that each institution is implementing toward increasing and improving the options for enjoyment available in Puerto Plaza.

In the context of this activity, the Sustainable Tourism Project based on the Public and Private Participation of Puerto Plata (TURISOPP) published a catalogue on “New Experiences in Community Tourism in Puerto Plata,” which proposes innovative ways to explore rural sites of the Northern Coast.

TURISOPP’s presentations were done by Assistant General Coordinator of the projectTakashi Aoki, senior coordinators Maria Luisa Vasquez and LeydiPerez, UMPC coordinator Paola Cano, and Diomar Gonzales from the publicity department.

Also presenting were Jakaira Cid of the Destination Tourism Cluster and AmbraAttus of the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Companies of the North (ASHONORTE), who encouraged the initiatives that are being developed in the province.

On behalf of Puerto Plata’s Chamber of Commerce and Production, the Chamber’s Executive DirectorAuribelTejada stated, “We are very enthusiastic about being an active part of this great scenario, which represents commerce for the entire Cibao region and the country, especially at a time when community institutions are focusing on working together to pursue the goal of stimulating commercial development and tourism growth for the entire province.”

Another very successful activity was “Puerto Plata Night,” with artistic presentations by Facundo Peña, Abraham Tamares and the Imbert Orchestra. These performances were well received by the public in attendance.

On concluding Expo Cibao 2013, the commercial exhibition organizing committee recognizedthe Provincial Coordination Bureau for Sustainable Tourism in Puerto Plata for the most outstanding module of the event due to the impact it generated during the days of the fair.

The bureau is an organization made up of the province’s ten Municipal Units for Community Heritage of the province(UMPCs); the Sustainable Tourism Project based on Public and Private Participation for Puerto Plata province (TURISOPP); the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Puerto Plata; the Ministry of Tourism; the Destination Tourism Cluster; the Association of Hotels of the Northern Zone (ASHONORTE); the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP); and the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (ADOMPRETUR).
