During the period September, 2012 to August, 2013, the National Institute for the Education and Training of Teachers (INAFOCAM – Instituto Nacional de Formación y Capacitación del Magisterio) awarded scholarships to 20,280 teachers, high school graduates and non-teaching professionals from non-pedagogical areas to study in the various educational and training programs for teachers that the Institute has.


Of the total number of scholarship recipients, 19,555 teachers have benefited from post-graduate programs and professional training, 380 high school graduates were included in the initial teacher education programs and 345 professionals in non-teaching areas have joined the Teacher Training program.


This information was released during the event in which the achievements of the institution were celebrated.The event was headed by the Institute’s Executive Director, Teacher Denia Burgos. Area directors, technical and support staff attended the event. 


Of the total number of scholarship recipients, 19,555 teachers have benefited from post-graduate programs and professional training, 380 high school graduates were included in the initial teacher education programs and 345 professionals in non-teaching areas have joined the Teacher Training program.


During the ceremony, held in the virtual classroom, Mrs. Burgos thanked her team “for their contribution and for sharing these results, which receivedinput from each one of you.”


“Let each one do his/her work, which is what makes a great team,” Mrs.Burgos said when addressing the staff of the teaching and administrative areas,gathered in the INAFOCAM virtual classroom.


Other accomplishments cited by the official were the reduction in the time required to get approval for the programs to be implemented with the relevant training institutions, and the corresponding signing of the contracts. “This result is what has allowed many programs to get started in such a short time, with the resulting training benefit for Dominican teachers,” she said.


She also reported to be working on the computer platform that will enable the integration of the information on the programs that INAFOCAM coordinates with the one that isbeing recorded by the teacher training institutions.


She also indicated that the financial systems are 90%automated, which has contributed to faster decision-makingwith regard to disbursement of payments for the committed line items.


In addition, she reported that during this period INAFOCAM’sOffice of Free Access to Public Information was opened and progresses is being made to certify the Institute under the ISO 9001:2008 standard.


In a state of obvious delight, the staff of the institution participating in the event reaffirmed its readiness to continue adding achievements to those shared by the Executive Director,as part of the celebration of the first year of the current INAFOCAM administration.
