With the purpose of promoting decent employment, social security and compliance with the standardsand the fundamental principles and rights at work, the Ministry of Labor, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Dominican Confederation of Employers (COPARDOM – Confederación Patronal Dominicana) and the trade unions signed a Memorandum of Understanding.


This agreement seeks to implement ILO’s Technical Cooperation Framework: Decent Work Country Program for the Dominican Republic 2013 – 2016.


This agreement seeks to implement ILO’s Technical Cooperation Framework: Decent Work Country Program for the Dominican Republic 2013 – 2016. 


The agreement was signed by the Minister of Labor, Maritza Hernández; VirgilioLevaggi, ILO’s Deputy Director; Jaime González, President of COPARDOM; Rafael -Pepe- Abreu, President of the National Central Trade Union Unity; and Jacobo Ramos, Secretary General of the CNTD (National Confederation of Dominican Workers).


This agreement was structured around four priorities and theircorresponding effects,as expected by ILO’s constituents in the country, after various consultations and dialogues held for that purpose.  


The priorities include:to promote compliance with the rules, principles and rights at work; to create greater opportunities for women and men, in order for them to have decent income and employment; to promote and expand the universal social protection; and, finally,to strengthen tripartism and social dialogue.


In keeping with ILO’smandate, the Dominican Government and the representatives of the employers and workers sectors, through the signature of this agreement, statetheir decision to implement the Decent Work Program (DWP) for the country during the period indicated.
