III Dominican Environmental Film Festival to be Held in Puerto Plata from September 5 to 7

For the second year in a row, the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster will host the III Dominican Environmental Film Festival, organized by the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister institution in the United States, Global Foundation for Democracy and Developmet (GFDD). The Festival in Puerto Plata will run from September 5-7.


The opening of the Festival will be on Thursday the 5th in Sosúa at 7:00 pm with the film, Minds in the Water. This same day at 7:30 pm, Money & Life will show at the O&M University. The following morning at 9:00 am, Planet Ocean will showat the Reforma School.


According the Festival organizers, this year’s high quality productions will stressfive themes of interest: oceans, biodiversity, green economy, sustainable agriculture and climate change.


There will be panels, debates and roundtable discussions as the Festival organizers seek to promote dialogue and encourage the public to adopt actions that will ensure the future health and sustainability of our environment.


In Puerto Plata, the events will take place at six different venues: theSosúa Bay Grand Casino, Organización y Método (O&M) Universities, the Technology Center of Santiago (UTESA), Santa Rosa de Lima, Juana Caraballo,Gregorio Urbano Gilbert and Plan Reforma Schools where a series of interesting films and activities will be held to raise awareness and broaden existing comprehension of issues that contribute to the appreciation, conservation and sustainable use of the earth and its natural resources.

On Friday, Between Islands: A Lifeline of Survivalwill show at the Santa Rosa of Lima School and at 10:30 Sharkwater will screen.


At 7:00 pm the Festival will move to UTESAwith two short films: De espaldas al Mar andWhat Would Darwin Think?


The closing of the Festival in Puerto Plata will take place at the Juana CaraballoSchool in Los Domínguezwith the retrospective film, Bag It!to be shown at 7:00 pm.


The press conference introducing the Festival was led by Mrs. Jakaira Cid, Executive Director of the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster; Mr. Tomas Callender, President of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Sosúa and Cabarete; Mr. Juan Pablo Plácido as a representative of the Government of Puerto Plata and Ms. YamileEusebioPaulino, Director of Operations of the Film Festival.


At the end of the press conference, provincial government representative, Juan Pablo Plácido stressed the importance of this initiative for Puerto Plata. He also praised the educational contributions being made by the community through this project.
