Conference Promotes Business in the United States for Commerce and Tourism Sectors of Puerto Plata with Stress on Investment Opportunities

A t the conference, held in New York as part of the ninth meeting of Chambers of Commerce from Puerto Plata, the United States and Canada,ÁngelAmauryPla, urged the Dominican community in the US and Canada to create an economic model that will enable them to have a true commercial exchange between the USA and the Dominican Republic, especially Puerto Plata.

Mr. Amaury Pla, president of the Puerto Plata Chamber of Commerce, said the province is currently in a phase of profound transformation, resulting from a notable integration of various sectors of the communityand thanks to support from Dominican authorities and international associations and agencies that have placed their confidence in this province as a tourism destination. Based on this, he said it was a good moment to bring more representatives from commercial and tourism areas as a way of encouraging productive growth in this northern region of the Dominican Republic.

The presence of the Puerto Plata Chamber of Commerce at this annual event, he noted, was motivated by the intention of introducing the current panorama of Puerto Plata as a tourism destination in the hope of signing a collaboration agreement between the Puerto Plata USA, Inc. committee and the provincial cooperation board to create a bilateral commission with the goal of integrating the productive sectors of the province with the large market in the United States through a two-lane highway to exchange commercial goods.

In his speech, Plastressed that currently Puerto Plata is enjoying an opportune investment climate for hotel tourism  projects, real estate and agro-industrials, taking into account that in the coming year they willbegin operations of the AmberCove tourism port in Maimón Bay. This, in addition to taxes to cover the extension of new tourism infrastructure facilities and the remodeling that is allotted for in Law 158-01 with the inclusion of Puerto Plata and all its municipalities.

“The situation of Puerto Plata is secure and reliable for these new enterprises. We are convinced that we are in an ideal phase to undertake a large project that can begin next year with the implementation of a round of negotiations and, shortly thereafter, a tourism and commerce fair in New York,” said Pla as he concluded his speech at the conference with Dominican businesspeople residing in New York.

Participants at the 9thPuerto Plata USA, Inc. conference included a commission of various institutions, comprised of representatives of the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster; the Sustainable Tourism Project based on Public and Private Participation (TURISOPP); the Association of Hotels of the North (ASHONORTE); the Technical Professional Training Institute (INFOTEP) and the Ministry of Tourism.
