Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 07/15/13

S ANTO DOMINGO.- After the passage of the storm “Chantal” through the Dominican Republic, the State Budget Dining Rooms (Comedores Económicos del Estado) have distributed, up to this Saturday, some 74,145 cooked food rations among the families that were affected by the rains, rescue workers, military personnel and police officers who worked in preventive and rescue missions.

The general manager of the agency, Mr. Ramón Monchy Rodríguez announced that, per instructions from President Danilo Medina, the Budget Dining Rooms continue to provide food assistance to the families that were affected by the floods caused by the rainfall of the atmospheric phenomenon, as well as to the institutions and brigade workers.

Noting that some 26 mobile kitchen units have been set up in different parts of the country, the official decided to keep these units in the most vulnerable areas as well as the dinning rooms in the provinces that need them, even if the rains have subsided.

“The priority is to provide an ongoing service to the community and to serve the population after the effects of the storm, so that no one is left without food,” stated Monchy Rodríguez, who also reiterated his commitment to continue providing a quality and efficient food service from the state agency, according to the social policy directives and guidelines of the President.

In this sense, the official inspected several of the locations where the mobile kitchens have been installed, to check the quality of the foods that are being supplied to the families that are in risky situations.

“This is a task that we conduct with much pride and great disposition, because it benefits the Dominican people and President Danilo Medina has instructed us that no one, in the midst of this problem, must go without food,” he said.

Of the 74,145 cooked food rations that were distributed to the affected families and rescuers, 45,077 were delivered through the mobile kitchens and 29,068 via the dining rooms that are disseminated throughout
