III Neptuno National Kite Boarding Cup to be Held in Puerto Plata

Taking the opportunity to promote athletic tourism in Puerto Plata, theKite Association of this province (ASOKITEPOP in Spanish), announced that it was holding the third Neptuno National Kite Boarding Cup on June 29-30 along the city’s waterfront of Neptuno Kite Beach.

The categories of the competition are: Pro, Amateur, Women’s, Race, High Jump and Mega Loop, of which the first three will be classified as Free Style.

Event organizers, Fernando Subero and Johan Bierd, announced that this year’s Cup will welcome more than 70 kiteboarders, including a large group of the most recognized professionals from the Dominican Republic. One of those outstanding kite boarders is Luis Alberto Cruz, three-time winner of the PKRA world kite-boarding event as well as a group of 25 competitors who will travel here from Argentina.

The categories of the competition are: Pro, Amateur, Women’s, Race, High Jump and Mega Loop, of which the first three will be classified as Free Style.

Organizers also announced that this year’s Neptuno National Kite Boarding Cup holds several novelties such as a 3-kilometer circuit that comes out at Blue JackTar, a Playa Dorada project that has generated a great deal of expectation among participants and amateur kite boarders.

At the press conference held to announce event details, Máximo Iglesias, president of the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster (CTDPP in Spanish), said “once again Tourism Management based on the Cultural Resources of Puerto Plata, through the CTDPP, will support this valuable event because it promotes water sports as part of Puerto Plata’s tourism culture as well as being an invaluable draw to this destination in the same way the province’s waterfront is.”

For his part, architect Manuel “Mitono” Durán, god father of the Cup, called it  “marine festival,” which deserves to be totally supported especially in view of the fact that kite boarding has acquired a huge following in recent years in Puerto Plata, especially among young people who are more and more interest in getting involved in this sport.
