This complimentary cultural event takes place in the country every year. The seventh installment will feature 17 European films that will be screened between June 13 and June 26. These two weeks will feature a lot of genres ranging from comedy, suspense, drama and children’s movies.

During the press conference that was held at the Cultural Center of Spain, the Cultural Attachés stated that the Dominican people will acquire a ‘different perspective’ about the Cinema, because they will be able to taste the true European cinema.

The European films that are to be screened at theEurocine 2013 depict a variety of realities. The European cinema, as the European Union itself, is diverse, but always depicts a deep European identity that is common to all the member states. This cinema has its roots in the European history and culture, but its themes are as universal as its audience, stated Jonathan Pitts of the Delegation of the European Union.

The Cultural Attachés and the Director of the Dominican Cinematheque, Fiora Cruz, announced that the grand opening is this Thursday, June 13, at 7 pm at the Dominican Cinematheque. It will feature the screening of the Spanish film “No habrápazpara los malvados (There will be no peace for the wicked),” a police drama that has won six Goya Award nominations, including for best picture, best director and best leading actor.

Other films will be screened on Tuesday through Thursday, at 7:30 pm, and on Friday during two sessions at 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Meanwhile, on Saturday and Sunday the screenings will take place at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The 5:00 pm sessions are reserved for films that are suitable for the entire family.

During the two weeks of the festival, there will be room not only for animated films, but also for comedy and drama. An example is the great German film “HijadelInvierno (Winter’s Daughter)” which deals with the drama of a 12 year old girl who discovers that her dad is not her biological father and, disappointed, goes in search of the latter.

Also the French comedy “Mala Fe” (Mauvaisefoi – Bad Faith) will leave the moviegoers hungry for more European cinema. This film shows how a happy couple is affected by their religion, given that she is Jewish and he is Muslim. Despite their love, their relationship is affected by the traditions of their families.
