P
aintings, drawings, sculptures and installations are part of the exhibition, in whichthe Dominican artist based in France, Miguelina Rivera, revealsher love for the arts and transforms everyday items into works that leave a markdue totheir great cultural and religious significance.

“in her devices she makes what could be called the blood of things circulate. It is clear that she pulls out of herself all the rebellious blood, rabidly human, from the Caribbean and its history …

For the famous art critic, Gerard Xuriguera “Rivera’scareer path develops at the crossroads between the act of painting, the metamorphosis of the object and, more recently, the photography and compositions, but which altogetherexpress a preference for the third dimension.”

He further states that “in her devices she makes what could be called the blood of things circulate. It is clear that she pulls out of herself all the rebellious blood, rabidly human, from the Caribbean and its history. Herstaging, which sometimes are tinged with Baroque extravaganza, are never neutral, since they are part of a journey of nostalgia underlined by a consensual exile that strengthens the impact of the far away country.”

“Traces” stems from the exhibition prize from the I International Triennial of the Caribbean, awarded to the artist of the Dominican diaspora based in France, Miguelina Rivera, who has an outstanding career which ranks her as one of the most important national contemporary artists.

For Maria Elena Ditrén, Director of the MAM, “Miguelina Rivera is primarily a drafts woman, sculptor and installer, and in her works she repeatedly includes the subject of personal and collective identity, the environment, and other more intimateissues concerning interpersonalrelations, family, gender issues, and femininity in particular.”

The exhibition will remain open until July 14 at the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, which is located on Ave Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, behind the National Theatre.
