On May 14,the Dominican-American Cultural Center(CCDA – Centro Cultural Domínico-Americano) and the Alliance Française of Santiago, for the second consecutive year, jointly organized the “Cannes Film Festival in Santiago,” which screened the film “MIDNIGHT IN PARIS,” directed and written by U.S. film director Woody Allen, at the library of the Dominican-American Cultural Center.


Filmmaker Joan Espino explained the importance of the Cannes Film Festival, and provided a synopsis of the film, which included curious information about it. Then the screening began and the members of the CCDA Board of Directors, students, film aficionados, teachers…


The event started at 6:30 pm with the red carpet, an occasion where pictures of those present were taken. Then a toast with President and Stella Artois beers was offered,together with a popcorn snack.


The commemorationstarted at 7:00 pm with an attendance of 175 people. The Master of Ceremonies for this commemoration of the Cannes Film Festival, which is held every year in France, was Judith Peralta, head of Communications and Cultural Activities at the Dominican-American Cultural Center, who introduced Mrs. Llini Jorge de García, who attended on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Dominican-American Cultural Center, and welcomed those present, especially the U.S. Embassy and the Alliance Française.


Then Mr. John Dunne, Cultural Attaché at the Franklin Cultural Center, Office of Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy, ??which collaborated with the logistics of this activity, stated that filmmaking crosses borders and weaves together cultures and nations. Subsequently, Mr. Cyril Anis, Director of the Alliance Française, thanked the Dominican-American Cultural Center for having partneredagain with the Alliance Française for this important event.
