The Ministry of Labor and the International Labor Organization (ILO) presented the results of a study that will strengthen the Administration of Decent Jobs project in the La Romana province and the municipalities of Bayahibe and Juan Dolio.


During her speech, Hernández highlighted that the objective of this project is bettering the working conditions of players in the labor market in the afore-mentioned places.


Minister of Labor, Maritza Hernández, led the activity with Virgilio Levaggi, Director of the ILO Office for Central America, Haiti, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

Hernández promised to fortify the capacity of local branches, in the provinces of San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana, for preventing and sanctioning non-compliance with labor legislation.


The official said that the fundamental ideas of this strategic plan are focused on the regulation of labor relations, occupational safety, child labor in its worst forms, social security, the National Employment Service and social dialogue.


Hernández reiterated her desire for employment policy to become the center of all public policy.


For his part, the director of the country’s ILO office, VirgilioLevaggi, stressed the organization’s commitment to collaborating with the country in order to reduce informal labor. Levaggi explained that as the project becomes more and more successful, so will his organization’s support for achieving decent labor in the Dominican Republic.
