In New York, theCalzada Education Foundationis collecting school shoes for under privileged children.


Entertainers, artists and important individuals from the community as well as companies joined forces and managed to collect over 500 pairs of shoes…


Embracing the altruistic spirit, scores of people attended the Negro Claro Lounge to donate school shoes for children from poor families in the Dominican Republic.

Entertainers, artists and important individuals from the community as well as companies joined forces and managed to collect over 500 pairs of shoes to be distributed in schools in marginalized neighborhoods in the Caribbean nation.

The air was full of positive energy as the foundation met its goal when the solidarity in people’s hearts answered the call. Businessmen like CiriloMoronta, owner of 809, as well as Ruth Morales, one of the owners of Negro Claro also made their donations.


Likewise, members of the community like Fary De León, president of Latin Faces Jose R. Díaz, Pedro Venegas, Wendy Bonilla, Dr. Pedro Taveras, Dr. Deyanira Rosario Leger, Eddie Lantigua (Reaction Insurance), Sam Beeler, Don Corpo, Radhames and local talent from the tri-state area also showed their spirit of solidarity: JoseFernando, Ninoshka, Manny Perez, Manny Sounds, Drago 3, Sessino, Minino, Roy Alexandre, the group Oro Blanco, Octavio de la Rosa and the writer Yloven Abreu.

Thanks to the help from the FORD Motor Company, blogger Ramón Ramírez from Misterdj1.net will be able to enjoy a weekend with one of their innovative vehicles for free for having followed the event on his blog.


Anyone attending the event had access to a delightful picadera (Dominican snacks) with El Viajero Cheeses and delicious Domino’s Pizza, as well as free orders of pizza.


Thanks to this cause and the spirit of camaraderie of many people, hundreds of children will be able to go to school with new shoes on. Whoever wasn’t able to attend the event in person to make their donations, will be able to do so in five of the outpatient clinics of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where donation boxes have been put out.


The non-profit organization received support from Delta Air Lines, H2G Media, InKing Time Printing, Mimi’s Fussion, La Primavera Cargo Express, D’Leon Transportation, ARussell Enterprises and Negro Claro. Other supporters included entertainment industry professionals and foundation members such as Ana Russell, Jennifer Mercedes, Carmen Martinez, Rosarina Breton, Roberquis Jimenez, Angie Jerez, Indhira Baez, Nurys De Oleo, XiomaraTaveras, Mimi Isles andMatty Perez.


The cause also motivated personalities from the radio, television, the Internet and social media: Carmen Rivas (Noche Phenomenal), friends fromSomos Latinos VIP, Mister DJ1.net, Neoyorkinos.com, La Artistika, Ray Carrion Jr., Luis Freddys Gomez, Marcos Delgado, La chicaDeportes show, Magi and Margarita from El Can de los Sabados.
