The Ministry of Culture announced the debut of the Dominican Orchestral Theatre (TODO – Teatro Orquestal Dominicano), made of people with disabilities. The launching ceremony will take place on Monday, May 27, at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theatre.


TODO is an initiative of the administration that, since May 20, is headed by singer and composer José Antonio Rodríguez, Minister of Culture. It is part of the social inclusion policy that is being sponsored by the government of President Danilo Medina.


The new art group also has the support of the National Council on Disability and of the National System of Children and Youth Symphony Orchestras.


A total of 120 young people with special conditions make up the new group. TODOblends artistic disciplines such as theater, singing, dance, folklore and percussion.


According to information provided by the group Director, María Ortiz, during the launching ceremony it will beaccompanied by the Juan Pablo DuarteYouth Symphonic Orchestra, directed by maestros José Antonio Molina, Dante Cucurullo and Darwin Aquino.

Ortiz said that the orchestra was born “as a response to the need to recognize and elevate the talents ofspecial people that nature, in its unfathomable wisdom, has given us as gifts to create diversity and to enrich our existence.”


She further said that these young people have overcome every obstacle and lessened any difficulty to be selected and become part of the group.


The Director, who also heads the National System of Orchestras,stressed that “they are the central characters of the most beautiful realities that our history has written, because, in addition to moving us deeply with theirsimplicity and purity of heart, they fill us with admiration and gratitude, making us more supportive and fraternal and more comprehensive and whole.”
