This Tuesday, April 30th, the Ministry of Education (MINERD) will organize the VIII National Forum on Arts Education in Schools, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as part of the program of activities that the Ministry is carrying out in the framework of the XVI International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2013


The Forum is being organized by MINERD’s Arts Education Area. It takes place in the Aída Bonelly de Díaz Culture Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.

The event brings together leading scholars, educators, artists and intellectuals, who will lecture on the proposalsfor the changes that are required for updating the curriculum. Nature, content and skills.


This edition of the Forum provides continuity to the space for reflection and dialogue that has been sponsored, for eight years, with experts and personalities from the various sectors that have an impact on the world of education, arts and culture.


The Forum is a space for sharing research and experiences and forexchanging ideas on issues and trends in curriculum development of Arts Education, which,in its various forms, is a key area for the integral education of the students, thus contributing to improving the quality of education in our nation.


The event is led by MINERD authorities and features the special participation of representatives from universities, foundations and other institutions that offer or promote Arts Education, both in specialized centers or formal education programs and in non-formal education projects.


The individuals and education authorities that were present included: Rita Ceballos, Director General of Elementary Education at MINERD; Rafael García Romero, Director General of Culture; Luis Sánchez Noble, President of the InnovatiFoundation andMESCYT’sbusiness advisor; and María Amalia León de Jorge, Director of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation.


In addition, the following individuals also participated: Odalis Pérez, Director of the School of Critique and Art History at the UASD; David Capellán, Coordinator of the CurriculumReview and Update Process at MINERD; Eduardo Villanueva, Coordinator of Educational Projects at the INICIA Foundation; Delia Blanco, art critic; Lorgio Núñez, regional technician in theCotuí Arts Education area.


During the forum, the public and the lecturers could exchange ideas and opinions that contribute to provide access for everyone to knowledge and the critical appraisaltowardthe diversity of artistic and cultural expressions in the Dominican educationalcontext, in light of the process of curriculumupdating and revisionthat MINERD promotes, in order to achieve excellence in the Dominican education.


On this occasion, the publication that compiles the presentationsat the VII Forum, which took place in 2012, within the XV International Book Fair, will be released.


The event is being organized by the technical team of the Arts Education Area of the General Directorate of Curriculum of the Vice Ministry of Technical and Pedagogical Services, under the coordination of CruzMaría Dotel, head of the Arts Education Area.
