UNIBE Ratifies its Commitment to Inclusion of People with Special Needs

The Iberoamericana University (UNIBE) sponsored an event without precedent in the Dominican Republic through the Work Table entitled: “Proposal for Service Policies for Inclusion in the University.”


The Organization of Students of UNIBEundertook this activity with the purpose of contributing to the development of policies that can offer and provide services as well as meet the needs of university students with special needs.

Participants in the event included institutions and associations dedicated to providing support and specialized attention to people with special needs such as the National Council on Handicapped (CONADIS), the National Association for the Blind (ANSORDO), the Latin American Network, the Dominican Foundation for the Blind (FUDCI), the Circle of Handicapped Women (CIMUDIS), the Association of People with Motor Skills Disabilities (ASODIFIMO), the Santa Rosa Institute for Helping the Deaf,theNational School for the Deaf and the Association of Sign Language Interpreters.


As part of the activity, the Rector of UNIBE, Dr. Julio Amado CastañosGuzmánsigned collaboration agreements with the following: ANSORDO, FUDCI, CIMUDIS, ASODIFIMO and theNetwork.


In this way, the network of collaboration will transcend the contributions of the Work Table. Dr. Julio Amado Castaños, used the occasion to express his appreciation for their contributions throughout the event adding that there is a great deal of interest in “making our university accessible toall students.”


UNIBE proposes to collaborate with these organizations in putting forth policies and research projects that seek to promote inclusion of students with great potential while removing the obstacles that may impede them from entering into the labor market due to a physical disability.


Representatives of the organizations thanked UNIBE for the opening and commitment. They also expressed appreciation for the support of other initiatives and projects that are being proposed.
