Ministry of Culture to Publish 27 Books by Dominican Authors at Upcoming International Book Fair

Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez viewed the publication of the 27 books as a huge achievement, especially the special collection of the well-known Dominican writer, Pedro HenríquezUreña, which will be available in seven books.

The Book Fair is being organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Book Fair Directorate. This year the Fair is dedicated toHilma Contreras and the guest of honor is Ecuador.

The other publications will be presented at the gala book event are: “El Álbum K” by José Ángel Mercedes Brattini; “La conversión de los objetos”, Youth Prize at the 2012 International Book Fair; “Cuentoscompletos de Hilma Contreras”, (Special Edition); “La tierraestábramando,”also by Hilma Contreras; Cuadernillo de Efemérides (Duarte Bicentennial, The Restoration, Election of Bosch, TheManaclas and the Pedro Mir Centennial).

Also, “Pensar alto”, by Julio Jaime Julia, compiled by Senator José Rafael Vargas; Collection of Short Stories Dienteleche (children’s stories from Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico); “Comic sobre la vida de Juan Pablo Duarte”; “Los poetas no son másqueniebla”, anthology of Pedro Mir (co-published with Alfaguara); “El Ecuador en la Historia” by Jorge Núñez Sánchez; “Peregrina sin amor” by Carmen Castro Corsani; and the books entered into the Ultramar Letters Competition organized by the Cultural Commissioner of the United States.

The Book Fair is being organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Book Fair Directorate. This year the Fair is dedicated toHilma Contreras and the guest of honor is Ecuador.

The XVI International Book Fair will take place from April 22 to May 5 in theJuan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza where 700 writers are participating as well as dozens of publishers and bookstores.

The central themes this year include: the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Birth of Juan Pablo Duarte, Father of the Dominican Nation; the 150th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic; the 50 year anniversary marking the rise to power of Professor Juan Bosch; the 50th anniversary of the uprising of ManoloTavárez Justo in Manaclas, and the Centennial of the Birth of Pedro Mir, the National Poet.
