This year, the Library of the Spanish Cultural Center (CCE) celebrates its 20th anniversary in Santo Domingo.


Such an important occasion for the community, and for the Spanish Cooperation as a whole, is worthy of being celebrated, by sharing the time, expertise and services with the public; …


The Library, besides offering a quality service in the books sector, has become well knowndue to the large number of activities that revolve around it, such as the Lero Lero Leo program to encourage reading. Also because it is a training resource, given that hundreds of professionals have received some form of trainingthere during the last decade.


Such an important occasion for the community, and for the Spanish Cooperation as a whole, is worthy of being celebrated, by sharing the time, expertise and services with the public; disseminating the results of these cultural initiatives; discussing specific issues related to Dominican cultural activities; and proposing innovative courses of action or actions that affect neglected areas.


Its collection has over 24,000 volumes of documents on the Spanish and the Ibero-American cultures. It consists of books;booklets of serial publications; graphic, audiovisual and cartographic materials;sound and video recordings on magnetic tapes; and other electronic resources. They are available for viewing at any time the user wishes to do so.


Various activitieswill take place during the first week of April on the occasion of the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the CCE Library. They will be free of charge and will involve all actors of society and other interested parties, as well as professional librarians.


· Conference “Reducing Risks and Disasters in Libraries”
It is aimed at librarians, archivists and the general public. It will take place on Monday, April 1stat 6:00 pm. Ruahidy Lombert will be the speaker.

· Get-together with the Authors in the Library
On Wednesday, April 3rd, at 4:00 pm, Lily Antun, author of children’s books of fiction,willshare her passion for writingwith young readers (between the ages of 3-12 years). She will also share some of her stories and will talk with them about the magical world of reading.


· Dramatized readings
We invite you to attend a dramatized reading offered by participants in the book club for people over the age of 50, on Thursday, April 4, at 7:00 pm.

· Promoting reading in the Dominican Republic
The Library invites all interested parties to the get-together forreading promoters, teachers and librarians to discuss the current and future stateof reading promotion in the Dominican Republic.This activity will take place on April 5, at 6:00 pm,within the framework of the commemoration of the International Day of Children and Youth Reading.

· Presentation of the book Cuentos de Verano (Summer Tales)
This activity will take place on Saturday, April 6, at 4:00 pm.This storybook has been created by children who attended the Lero Lero Leoreading program in the summer of 2012.


The eleven stories that make up the book were written and illustrated by children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.


Participation in all these activities is free of charge.
