The State’s Budget Dining Rooms and “Acción Callejera” signed an agreement

The State’s Budget Dining Rooms (Comedores Económicos del Estado) and the “Acción Callejera (Street Action)” Educational Foundation signed an inter-agency agreement to provide food to children and youth at risk and with challenges of a social nature,who are grouped in its ten (10) centers which are located in impoverished communities of the municipality of Santiago de los Caballeros.

The administrator of the State’sBudget Dining Roomsindicated that President Danilo Medina is interested in contributing to the reduction ofthe extreme poverty levels in the country. Therefore, he has given instructionsto work in favor of the disadvantaged and most vulnerable people by supportingsocial programs;therefore, this agreement falls within the principles and parameters of his Government.

The agreement establishes that the Budget Dining Rooms agree to provide “Acción Callejera,” in a constant and uninterrupted manner, one thousand one hundred and seventy three (1,173) cooked rations per day, which will amount to some six thousand seven hundred and fifteen (6,715) rations per week, in order to guarantee the fundamental right to food of children attending the charityprograms, which deliver 281,000,520 rations per year, with an estimated investment by the food program of 19,706,000 pesos.

The agreement callsfor cooked rations to be delivered and served Monday through Friday to the 2,483 children and adolescents that are the beneficiaries of the “Acción Callejera” programs, through the Budget Dining Roomswhich have been established in the community of Santiago, as a way to joining and supporting the efforts attached to the human right to food.

In turn, the “Acción Callejera”Educational Foundation agrees to designate a person to be responsible for transporting the cooked rations daily from the office of the State’sBudget Dining Rooms to its facilities. Transportation will ensurequality and hygiene, which will raise the quality of life of the beneficiaries of the food program.

The “Acción Callejera”Educational Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote actions that ensure therights of children and adolescents at risk and who experience social difficulties; lead to an understanding of their difficulties; and offer and implement comprehensive support programs that have a positive impacton their unfavorable living conditions.

José Ramón Peña, a youngster, expressed gratitude for the support that the children at the center have received from the State’s Budget Dining Rooms.

The State’sBudget Dining Rooms is a government agency, whose main function is to ensure that Dominican Government-subsidized food reaches all sectors in a fair, sustainable and humane way, through the distribution of raw and cooked rations with the highest standards of quality and hygiene. It assists the people according to the principles of solidarity and coordinated efforts.

José Ramón Peña, a youngster, expressed gratitude for the support that the children at the center have received from the State’s Budget Dining Rooms.

The programs that the Foundation runs through its “Salas de Tareas” benefit the towns of Cienfuegos, Hoyo de Elías, Los Guandules, La Mina, Hato del Yaque, Yaguita Pastor, Navarrete, Hoyo de Puchula and other communities.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Ramón Monchy Rodríguez, General Manager of the State’sBudget Dining Rooms, and by Ms. Altagracia del Carmen RodríguezFirpo, President of the Board of Directors of the “Acción Callejera”Educational Foundation Inc.

The team of nutritionists of the State’sBudget Dining Roomswas present at the signing of the agreement. The team is made ??of Drs.Inés Abinader, Magleny Tavarez and Laura Álvarez, and also Mrs. Natacha Díaz, Legal Advisor of the State agency.
