Yesterday, theGaleón de la Constitución prepared to welcome numerous national authorities to officially open the public tours.


The galleon, docked at the Don Diego Terminal of the Sansouci Port, will remain open to the public until March 3 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased at the pier.


At 9:30 am, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. César Dargam;the Ambassador of Spain, the Hon. Jaime Lacadena, and the Galleon’s Captain, Mr. Manuel Murube Fernández, welcomed aboard the Hon. Vice Admiral Mr. Edwin Rafael Dominici Rosario, Chief of Staff of the War Navy, the civil and military authorities, the diplomatic corps, and invited guests and the media. Theyconveyed their great satisfaction at having this impressive galleonin the port in Santo Domingo, which is a travelling Ambassador of the 1812 Constitution and its influencein the Dominican Republic.


The authorities highlighted the role of the galleon as a vehicle forbringing together different cultures and strengthening the ties of brotherhood and identity that havelasted throughout the centuries, as well as a symbol of the ships that brought in the liberal ideas, the values, the principles and the rights that were contained in the first constitution that arrived in Santo Domingo.


After the opening ceremony, the galleon has remained open to the public to welcome all Dominicans and visitors who want to visit this marvelous ship and learn about the history that lies beneath itsdecks. The public can tour the ship and its different decks, learningabout its shape and other details, and,guided by the crew, they will learn about how these great ships that sailed the oceans of the world navigated in those days, thereby ensuring the delight of adults and children alike.
