The Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, met with representatives of the National Police and ofthe Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET) to coordinate the security measures that will apply during the three-day carnival that will take place in the Dominican capital.


“In addition to disseminating the magnificence and colorful tradition of the Dominican carnival, we also have the responsibility of providing security to protect the public,” stated the Minister, José Antonio Rodríguez, during the meeting.


The official finalized the details of the logistics and security measures that will be implemented during Friday, March 1, Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, when the three-day carnival will be held in the National District.


As part of the security measures,1,600 members of the National Police, 310 AMET officers and 300 Tourist Police officers, plus 150 volunteers of the Civil Defense,will be deployedto ensure civic order and to protect the public. Also, an elite team will beput togetherto provide protection.


“In addition to disseminating the magnificence and colorful tradition of the Dominican carnival, we also have the responsibility of providing security to protect the public,” stated the Minister, José Antonio Rodríguez, during the meeting.


According to the Ministry of Culture’s Department of Communications, the meeting that took place on Monday, February 25 in MINC’s Conference Room also was attended by representatives of the Fire Department and Civil Defense.


The 2013 Carnival includes, for Friday,March1st, the celebration of”Obeliscos en Carnaval;”the Children’s Carnival Parade which will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, and the 2013 Great Dominican Carnival Parade that is scheduled for Sunday, March 3rd, on Avenida George Washington.


Also present on behalf of the MINCwere Ramón Lachapelle, Executive Director of the Carnival; Pedro Núñez del Rico, events director, and pilotColonel Martin Fuentes Soto, in charge of security.
