MINERD and the CDP announce the 2013 National Journalism Award

The Ministry of Education (MINERD) and the Dominican College of Journalists (CDP) called all Guild members to submit their proposed candidatesto participate in the 2013National Journalism Award. The award will be presented on April 5, the National Journalists Day.


“This award is the highest recognition that Dominican journalists can win; in general, it is presented at the National Palace. It is a State award that recognizes the professional career of all journalists,” according to Henríquez.


CDP President, Aurelio Henríquez informed of the event during a joint press conference held at the Guild headquarters. Otherattendees were:MINERD’s Director of Culture, Rafael García Romero, and Magdalena Núñez,Public Relations Officer. AméricoMartínezattended on behalf of the Dominican Association of Broadcasters (ADORA).


“This award is the highest recognition that Dominican journalists can win; in general, it is presented at the National Palace. It is a State award that recognizes the professional career of all journalists,” according to Henríquez.


He informed that applications may be submittedbefore March 26at the CDP Secretariat. The Guild is located on Avenida George Washington, at the corner with Dr. HoracioVicioso, at the Centro de los Héroes in the National District.


Decree 74-94 of March 28, 1994, established the bases and procedures of the award, which recognizes the winner’sjournalistic career and life accomplishments. The winner will receive a certificate and 650,000 pesos.


According to the rules, applications from journalists with more than ten years of professional practice will be considered. Applications should include the CV of the proposed candidate; a written justification which must not exceed three double-spaced pages; a list of all the media in which the candidate has worked and the positions held;a detail of the undergraduate and graduate studies the candidate haspursued,as well as thespecialized courses and workshops in which s/he has participated.


In addition, candidates may submit books they have authored, works as foreign or specializedcorrespondent they have performed from the Dominican Republic, works as independent producers, college career in education, and guild trajectory and specialization courses taken.


MINERD, through its Department of Communications, is the president of the jury, which is also integrated by ADORA –the Dominican Association of Newspapers, and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).


The following journalists have won the National Journalism Award:LipeCollado, Mario ÁlvarezDugán, Francisco Comarazamy, Rafael Molina Morillo, Radhamés Gómez Pepín, Minerva Isa, and Rafael Núñez Grassals.
