The Minister of Labor says that the training of human resources in government agencies is key to strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of the various programs and projects that are being implemented.


Maritza Hernández said that the objectives of the workshop are consistent with the interests of the Ministry of Labor of the Dominican Republic to continue implementing active employment policies.


The Minister of Labor,Maritza Hernández, opened the workshop “Impact Assessment, Theory and Evidence for Employment Programs in Latin America.”


Maritza Hernández said that the objectives of the workshop are consistent with the interests of the Ministry of Labor of the Dominican Republic to continue implementing active employment policies.


“We are delighted that this workshop will allow the sharing of knowledge and best practices in terms of the experimental evaluations of a number of countries in the region, and to contribute to the implementation of the proposals for research and evaluation of the projects, which amounts to improvingthe capacity to control public resources, by allowing to quantify whether the money and efforts invested have been effective.”


Hernández noted that the Technical Support in the Employment Services Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (RED SEALC), which is sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB),has selected the Dominican Republic to host this workshop based on its experience in experimental evaluations.


25 technicians involved in the design and implementation of experimental impact evaluations of employment programs in nine RED SEALC member countries will participate in the workshop. The participants will be from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic.


The head table will be chaired by the Dominican Minister of Labor, Maritza Hernández;the Bolivian Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Daniel Santalla;and Roberto Flores and Jorge Requena, from the IDB.
