Miguel Pimentel Kareh announces OISOE’s delivery of the “Circuito Vuelta al Lago Enriquillo”

The Director of the Office of Engineers SupervisingPublic Works (OISOE – Oficina de Ingenieros Supervisores de Obras del Estado), Engineer Miguel Pimentel Kareh, announced that on May 20, the agency will deliver the “Circuito Vuelta al Lago Enriquillo” road, an ambitious project that involves the construction of a road infrastructure which extends from the Barahona Province to Jimaní, locatd in the Independencia Province.

In recent years Lago Enriquillo has increased considerably in size, flooding the adjacent roads and affecting,because of the overflow, the traffic and development of the various provinces of the Southern region.

“Since our arrival, and in compliance with adirective from President Medina, the OISOE has worked continuously to find a permanent solution to the problems caused by the overflow of the Lake, while also making the roads safer,” Pimentel Kareh stated.

The OISOE Director added that the project also involves the construction of an alternative roadto replace the existing road on the stretch of the border with Haiti, since it has been inundated by the floodwaters of Lake Sumatra. This roadway is extremely important because it is in this place where the main commercial activities between the two nationsare conducted.

The OISOE explainsthat,in order to avoid traffic interruptions between Boca de Cachón and Jimaní,it has ??built a road in the mountains, moving more than a hundred thousand cubic meters of soil,thereby managing to move away from the lake some 15 feet in height.

Also, Engineer Pimentel Kareh said that he has a special interest in the needs of the Southern region, because he considers that this area is the country’s neediest, which is the reason why major works that will help the economic development of this region are currently taking place.
