OAS in Washington Inaugurates Exhibition of Dominican and Haitian Artists

The Organization of American States (OAS) inaugurated the photo exhibit “On Common Ground: Dominican Republic and Haiti” at the Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC.

The works of art explore the links and differences between the two countries, while stressing their vulnerabilities in the face of natural phenomena. Through this, they seek to promote a harmonious future for everyone.

The exhibit is the result of collaboration between the Dominican and Haitian Missions and the Museum of the Americas. The initiative seeks to create a better understanding, on an international level, between these two nations that share the same island, according to a communiqué from the Dominican Ministry of Culture.

The works of art explore the links and differences between the two countries, while stressing their vulnerabilities in the face of natural phenomena. Through this, they seek to promote a harmonious future for everyone.

Artists showing at the exhibit include Dominicans HuldaGuzmán, Engel Leonardo, Natalida Ortega Gómez, Gustavo Peña and Julio Valdez. Haitian artists are Jean Emmanuel, Patrick Ganthie, Marc Lee Steed, Manuel Mathieu and Pascale Monnin.

The opening was headed by OAS Secretary General, José Miguel Insulzaand Roberto Saladín, Dominican Ambassador to the OAS. The Dominican Ambassador to the US in Washington, Aníbal de Castro, was also present in addition to the Dominican Cultural Attaché, Ligia Read; Chief of Staff of the Culture Ministry, Carlos Salcedo and Haitian Ambassador to the United States, Paul Altidor, among others.
