Guarocuya Félix and Marino Vinicio Castillo signed an agreement at a public event held on Thursday at the office of the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII in Spanish).


Through the agreement, the DGII commits to assist the DIGEIG in any and all ways in their administrative research and investigations in its role as tax regulators. This includes denouncing administrative corruption charges it receives from all areas.


The DGII and the Office of Ethics and Governmental Integrity (DIGEIG in Spanish) signed an inter-institutional collaboration agreement to strengthen the struggle against corruption on a governmental level.


The agreement was signed by Guarocuya Félix, Director General of the Internal Revenue Office and Marino Vinicio Castillo Rodríguez, Director General of Ethics and Governmental Integrity at a public event in the DGII office in the presence of authorities from both organization.


The DIGEIG works under the auspices of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic and possesses the capacity to carry out the administrative investigations it deems necessary or those requested by an interested party or parties having to do with cases of corruption on the part of public servants.


Through the agreement, the DGII commits to assist the DIGEIG in any and all ways in their administrative research and investigations in its role as tax regulators. This includes denouncing administrative corruption charges it receives from all areas.


The DGII, as part of the Tax Administration of the Dominican Republic, has a database that contains real estate and property tax information about contributors registered with the National Taxpayers Register.


For its part, the DIGEIGhas committed to manage the information it gathers and to provide it to the Internal Revenue with the strictest confidentiality,always honoring the norms established by the Tax Code of the Dominican Republic.


It has been established that more and more financial corruption is linked to income being derived by illicit action such as tax evasion and tax fraud as well as contraband activity in general.


The DGII and DIGEIGhave agreed to mutually cooperate in the sharing of information and documents of a technical and legal character that are necessary to promote the programs, plans and actions they are undertaking through the joint use of the information infrastructures and archives they are mutually utilizing. They are also gathering and sharing sworn testimony concerning property ownership and taxes on the part of public servants of the Dominican Republic.


The team of technicians from these two government agencies will provide follow-up to the promotion of this agreement.
