Labor Ministry Follows Up Local Committee Reactivation to Eliminate Child Labor

The Labor Ministry’s Special Unit to Combat Child Labor held a meeting with local committees in the provinces of Dajabón and San Francisco de Macorís to create working agendas that will ultimately contribute to the eradication of child labor through the Roadmap Strategy.


Those present at this event include representatives from the Ministry of Women, CONANI, Pro-Familia, Ministry of Public Health, the Town Council of San Francisco de Macorís, the National Police, the National Army and other organizations and institutions.


Among the main objectives of the meeting was the presentation of projects that will deal with this challenge and the dissemination of information about the project, the goals is seeks and the ratification of institutional commitments.


The Roadmap Strategy is a strategic regional framework for the eradication of child labor and all its worst forms by the year 2016 and in all its forms by 2020, achieving an image of the desired future, with aspirations in concrete actions carried out over the short term.


The local provincial committees for prevention and eradication of child labor were created through Resolution 37-2005, with the goal of complying with Principle XI of the Work Code of the Dominican Republic which states: “Minors cannot be employed in services which are not appropriate to their age, state or condition or [services] that impede their ability to receive obligatory academic instruction.”
