The Dominican International Company (CID for its acronym in Spanish), Film de L’Astre and producers Sergio Gobbi, Joan Giacinti, Leo Proaño and Diego Fernández, completed the filming of the Cristo Rey movie, which was directed by Leticia Tonos.


The filming of the movie took place, for the most part, in the Dominican Republic, but also in Haiti, including locations in Port au Prince and along the border.


The entire team met at La Cantina del Agave in order to celebrate the success of the filming,which ended on schedule,as expected.

Cristo Reytells the story of the struggle for love of Janvier, a handsome young Dominican/Haitian, who gets into trouble when he falls in love with the beautiful young Jocelyn, the sister of the most feared “gangster” in the neighborhood and a former girlfriend of Rudy, Janvier’s half-brother, who will make every effort to ensure that both young people cannot make their love come true.


Janvier and Jocelyn will need to face all kinds of strugglesamid the crowded alleys of the populousneighborhood, to the point that Janvier is willing to defy even death to try to achieve the most daring deedin Cristo Rey:to get out of there with the woman he loves.


The stars of the film are James Saintl, Yasser Michelen Cunillera and Akari Endo, who along with a cast of actors, serve as threadsto a story that promises to stir mixed emotions in the viewer.


There will be special appearances by iconic figures of the neighborhood,such as Dr. Cruz Jiminián and Father Rogelio Cruz, as well as bysome youth from Cristo Rey who participated as actors, extras and dancers.


Humberto “Che” Castellanos is the line producer, while Kika Ungaro is the director of photography; Alexis de Peña and David Almengod, are the music directors, and Miguel Fernández, is the casting director.


The post-production process ofthe Cristo Rey moviewill take place in France, so that it can be ready next year for its release in late 2013.

This is the second film by Leticia Tonos, the first Dominican woman to write, produce and direct a feature film. Her directorial debut, “The Natural Daughter,” won a prize from the audience at the 27th Chicago Latino Film Festival, where it competed with more than one hundred films that had been produced in Latin America, Spain, Portugal and the United States, and it reached the pre-selection stage for the nomination for Best Foreign Film at the 2012Academy Awards®.
