Ministry of Culture announces poster contest for the 2013 National Carnival Parade

The Ministry of Cultureinvites all artists, designers, and students of art, graphic design and other creative expressions, to participate in a competition where the official poster for the 2013 National Carnival Parade will be selected.

Participants must identify themselves with a pseudonym. Entries must be submitted in a sealed envelope and should include full name, ID or Passport number, postal address, phone or fax number, and e-mail.

According to information received from the Ministry of Culture’s General Directorate of Communications, to participate in the competition contestants must present a final version of their artwork in printed and in digital formats in hard copy, real size, without color limitations, in 17 x 22 inchesformat, toDirecciónNacional de Gestión y Carnaval, located in the Ministry of Culture headquarters.

The poster design must include the following text: “Carnaval 2013. Desfile Nacional de Carnaval. Dedicado a la provincia Peravia, Bani. Santo Domingo, RepúblicaDominicana. Ministerio de Cultura.”

Contestants may submit up to two different entries. Entries must beoriginal and unpublished works. If the submitted pieces have been previously printed or distributed by any means or medium, or if they are proven to be the result of plagiarism, they will be discarded by the jury.

The selected poster will receive a prize of 75,000pesos, an official certificate and a commemorative plaque. A specialized jury made of personalities from the Dominican folklore, design and culture will be in charge of selecting the winning entry.

In addition, both the selected posterand the rest of the entries will be on display to the public, in a group exhibition,as part of the carnival season.
