Israeli Experts Teach Workshop “Women Entrepreneurship in the Dominican Republic” Based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The duration of the workshop was one week and it was based on the importance of gender equality for socio-economic development, the eradication of poverty and equal opportunities for women, as set forth in the Millennium Development Goals for 2015. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, the Israeli Agency for International Cooperation for Development (MASHAV), the Golda Meir – Mount CarmelInternational Training Center (MCTC), the Israeli Embassy in Santo Domingo, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Dominican ADELS Network,opened the workshop “Women Entrepreneurship” at the Universidad Central del Este (UCE) of San Pedro de Macorís. The workshop was attended by about 30 women representing the provinces of Mao, Monte Plata, Barahona, Dajabón, El Seibo, and Bahoruco, who will bring the lessons learned to their communities and will transmitthat knowledge to as many people as possible in their community. TheUNDP and the ADELS Network will monitor the process. The invited specialists in entrepreneurship issues from the Golda Meir – Mount Carmel International Training Center,Ms. Shula Ferdman and Ms. Shira Mano,will sharewith the participants the necessary ideas and tools on the establishment of small and medium enterprises, thereby enabling them to create their own businesses, which in turn will offer them the opportunity to become independent and will allow them to be included in the circuit of local economic development. During the opening ceremony, the Ambassador of Israel, Mr. Moshe Sermoneta,said that “Israel has a long history of cooperation for development in the Dominican Republic on a variety of issues, such as education, agriculture, technology, medicine and social issues, among others.
