Minister of Labor, Maritza Hernández, said she was confident that recent government actions would result in job creation thus fulfilling promises made by President Danilo Medina.


“People can rest assured that under the Medina government employment will grow. He said he will create 400,000 new jobs,” noted Ms. Hernández.


Minister Hernández said her ministry, in coordination with the business sector, is making every effort to train and place more people into the work force.

Along this vein, she asked for a vote of confidence in President Medina, ensuring that his government plan is to considerably reduce the unemployment rate.


“I ask you to give President Medina your vote of confidence as he has not yet had the opportunity to fulfill his promises. We have to give him time to do what he said he was going to do,” said Hernández.


From decrees to government austerity policies, he as shown what his policies will be in the coming four years, the Minister of Labor said at the inauguration of the 10th Congress of Dominican Managers Confederation. Their theme this year is, “Organization of the Workforce as a Key to Preventing Labor Risks,” which seeks to raise awareness of and reduce workplace accidents.


The Ministry of Labor, in coordination with the Directorate of Hygiene and Safety under it director, Patricia Bosch, set up tables at the conference where workers and employers can learn more about Regulation 522-06 on Safety and Health in the Workplace.


Also present at this labor event was COPARDOM president,Jaime González along with international experts who will look at issues relevant to the work-place risks.
