Two theater groups from Spain will open the 3rd edition of the 2012 Ibero-American Children’s Theater Festival (FITIJ in Spanish).


The play is about Maese Cereza, a carpenter, who gives a special piece of wood to Gepetto, also a carpenter, who carves a little doll with it and names it Pinocchio. The doll comes to life and is rebellious and disobedient.


The first show will be performed by the Ultramarinos de Lucas Theater Groupon November 1st. They will be performing Pinocchio, the famous children’s classic by Carlo Collodi, at the Ravelo Hall of the National Theater at 7 pm.

Pinocchio escapes and lives a life of adventure as it grows up amid danger and friendship. Some of his amazing encounters are with the even more amazing characters like the Cricket, the Fox, the Cat, the Fire Eater puppet. Meanwhile Gepetto is desperately looking for Pinocchio. He even travels out to sea, is swallowed by a shark and there he finds his Pinocchio, whom he saves and will love and take care of forever.


About the Ultramarinos de Lucas Theater Company


Ultramarinos de Lucas was formed in Guadalajara in 1994, by a group of scenic design professionals from such schools as the Jacques Lecoq in París, the Abadía Theater, the Marta Schinca School of Movement or the María del Mar Navarro School in Madrid. The members of the Company have worked with professional groups such as theAbadía andZascandil Theater, MatarileTheater, Theater of Olivar (María Ruiz), andFuegosFatuos Theater.


On November 2, AS, OS, @S by the YheppaTheater Company will be performed at the Children’s Library of the Dominican Republic.


In “AS, OS, @S,” theYheppa Company of Spain will narrate two stories of poetry and humor using a mixed genre of various types of puppets. The show invites viewers to look at issues involving respect for the other, gender equality and acceptance of oneself.


Yheppahas been in existence since 1990 as a research and experimental group working in different collective and experimental medium interrelated and integrated into the art scene including sound, music, poetry, light, darkness, the objects of language, puppetry and the human body.


TheIbero-American Children’s Theater Festival has become a space for scenic arts conceived of by national and international professional theater companies who dedicate their work to creative endeavors for children, young people and the whole family.
