With an investment of nearly 6.5 million Dominican pesos, the Ministry of Education (MINERD in Spanish) built three new schools in the communities of Botoncillo, El TeteroandGajo del Monte, in the province of Azua, to accommodate 308 students in elementary and middle school levels.


In Botoncillo, MINERDbuilt one school with two classrooms that included a bathroom, kitchen and bedroom for a student as well as a perimeter fence around the education center. This was built with an investment of 2,053,752 pesos.

Likewise, in El Tetero, MINERD is also building a school with classrooms for 53 students and they will include bathrooms, kitchen, sleeping spaces and outside perimeter fence. Their work is also nearly 50% finished and will be concluded at the end of the month. This job had a budget of 2,071,680 pesos.


Gajo del Monte built a new 2-classroom school and rehabilitated 2 others. This work was done with a budget of 2,384,442 pesos and will benefit 157 students.


In addition to the integration of the communities, the schools are being built with the participation of school districts 01, ofAzuaand 03-02 of Padre Las Casas, to whom resources were transferred through the Office of International Cooperation of the Education Ministry.


The case of the teacher in LosAuqueyes


Regarding the situation of the teacher, Santa de JesúsBrioso Pérez, some news outlets have reported that she is sleeping on the floor in the school in Los Auqueyes. MINERDreported that it is seeking a solution to accommodate the teacher and place her in decent living conditions.
