Experts and managers of public employment services from all continents met this Thursday at a workshop on LaborMigration and Public Employment Services, which is a priority issue for international organizations.


“The employment services of the country of origin and of the host country can prevent gaps between employment supply and demand, conduct market studies and facilitate the management of labor migration flows. I hope that the results from this forum will become fertile seeds for all,”…


This workshop is aimed at those responsible for public employment services and the ministries that deal with immigration and the return of skilled workers to the national labor markets.


During this meeting, the following persons made presentations:the Dominican LaborMinister, Maritza Hernandez, as well as the Director of the International Labor Organization, VirgilioLevaggi, and Angeles Bermudez-Svankvist, President of Public Employment Services of the Americas, before the World Association of Public Employment Services(WAPES).


Hernandez called for the development of a global work plan around the implementation of decent work and social justice, where there is no discrimination because of race, color or religion.


“The employment services of the country of origin and of the host country can prevent gaps between employment supply and demand, conduct market studies and facilitate the management of labor migration flows. I hope that the results from this forum will become fertile seeds for all,” Hernandez noted during the opening ceremony.


This is the first event that has been organized by the Dominican Republic after becoming the WAPES Vice President in June of 2012, through its Ministry of Labor.


WAPES provides a forum for sharingknowledge, cooperation and assistance in best practices among the actors of the labor market. It is a network of public employment services, where more than 500,000 people around the world work in technical and operational aspects.

Representatives from more than 10 countries, such as Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Brazil, Sweden, Belgium, Japan, Germany, France and Croatia, participated in this activity,which tookplace over two days in Punta Cana.
