Spanish Cultural Center Awards Winners of the Photo Culture Rally

The Spanish Cultural Center, in collaboration with Photoimagen, announced the winners of the third Photo Culture Rally, at an awards event where the selected photos are on display. The event was also the official closure of the Photoimagen Festival.


In the category of Best Amateur Photo, Carlos Acero and Mayra Johnson gave the prize to Roselyn Paulino López who received $10,000 pesos. Enrique Sancha Núñez won a camera from Ylving Portorreal, a representative of Nikon.


José Martínez won first place for Best Photo-Reportage for which he received a cash prize of $25,000 Dominican pesos. For Best Photo, Lissette Gil Muñoz won $15,000 pesos as well as recognition from Joaquín Benito, director of the Spanish Cultural Center.


In the category of Best Amateur Photo, Carlos Acero and Mayra Johnson gave the prize to Roselyn Paulino López who received $10,000 pesos. Enrique Sancha Núñez won a camera from Ylving Portorreal, a representative of Nikon.


Other photographers who received honorable mention in each category included Pedro Rodríguez, Carla García, Brendales Ramos (in children’s photography); Claudio Pérez, William Núñez, Miriam Sánchez (amateur photography); Roger Ramírez, Pedro Farías and a mention for Lissette Gil (in professional photography); Pedro Farías and Lorena Espinoza (photo-reportage).


As part of the ceremony, a recognition plaque was given to Mayra Johnson from the Manso Fotogrú Group, represented by the photographers, Pedro Genaro, Rubén Abud and Juan de los Santos for their contribution as creators of the Imagen 83 Foundation and the Photoimagen Festival, which has become the most important photography event in the country.


The jury was comprised of the Director of the Spanish Cultural Center, Joaquín Benito; Carlos Acero Ruiz, Art Director of Foto Imagen; Mayra Johnson, Director of Foto Imagen; Polibio Diaz, professional photographer and Sara Hermann, art curator.


Now in its third edition, the Photo Culture Rally was held this past September 19 with the participation of 217 photographers – professionals and amateurs – who filled the streets of the Colonial Zone trying to capture, with their lenses, this year’s theme “Diversity: Difference as Definition” which was also the name of the festival’s main exhibition.


The exhibition of the winning photos will be open to the public until October 7.
