MINERD delivers 20 new schools to different provinces in the country
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, September 22, 2012


During the current school year, the Ministry of Education (MINERD) has delivered a total of 20 fully equipped schools to 10 provinces around the country. The total cost of building these schools has been 482,258,430 pesos. With these schools, the total number of classrooms that have been built to accommodate 9,730 primary and secondary school students is 139.


These buildings have been designed as spaces for growth and improvement for both students and teachers. Hence, they have been equipped with facilities that satisfy the most modern criteria for the teaching-learning process.


The schools that have been delivered are: José Francisco Bobadilla, in Padre Las Casas, Azua, with six classrooms and capacity for 420 students; Los Corozos and Pajarito, in San Cristóbal, totaling 14 classrooms for 980 students; Hato Viejo, Los Hilario and ElCorozo, in Espaillat, with 31 classrooms for 2,170 students; Casa de Alto, Liceo Juan Bosch and Los Arroyos, in the Duarte Province, which together have 18 classrooms that accommodate 1,260 students; and TV Centro Las Caobas, in Santiago Rodriguez, which has four classrooms and has capacity for 280 students.


Furthermore, Eugenio de JesúsMarcano, the Liceo Ramón Rafael CasadoSolerandPalavé, in Santo Domingo, which total 26 classrooms and have capacity for 1,820 enrolled students; Guillermo Polanco, in Puerto Plata, with three classrooms for 210 students; the Liceo Pedro Sánchez and Los Botados , in Seibo, with 15 classrooms for 1,050 enrolled students; Villa Elisa and SolomónJorge, in Montecristi, with 10 classrooms for 700 students; and the Km3 and Professor Juan Bosch schools, in María Trinidad Sánchez, which total 12 classrooms and have capacity for 840 students.


These buildings have been designed as spaces for growth and improvement for both students and teachers. Hence, they have been equipped with facilities that satisfy the most modern criteria for the teaching-learning process.


The new school campusesfeature the following: an administrative area to oversee the teaching operations, and manage the staff and resources; computer and sciencelabs;a library;a sports court;and acivic squarewhere students, faculty and administrative personnelmaypay tribute to the patriotic symbols.


The also feature landscaping;a perimeter fence made ofbuilding blocks to ensure the safety of the students; and a dual system of water supply, which consists of an aqueduct outlet plus a submersible pump to ensure the continuous supply of water.
