MINERD resumes the School Breakfast Program

The Ministry of Education (MINERD) has reported that everything is ready to resume the School Feeding Program (PAE for its acronym in Spanish) on Monday, September 3rd, which will benefit 1,431,391 students at 5,060 educational centers nationwide.


Among the number of recipients in the Marginal Urban modality there are 97 educational centers with an enrollment of 37,989 beneficiary students, and which operate under the extended day policy.


The Administrative, and Health and Nutrition Units of the General Directorate of Student Welfare (DGBE for its acronym in Spanish) explained that during the 2012-2013 school year PAE will continue being provided under its three modalities: Marginal Urban, School Rationswith Local Food (REAL for its acronym in Spanish) and Border.


Under the Marginal Urban modality PAE will be distributed to 3,886 schools and will benefit 1,316,007 students; the PAE-REAL will be distributed to 681 schools and will benefit 70,071 students; and the PAEBorder will be brought to 493 schools to feed 45,313 students.


Among the number of recipients in the Marginal Urban modality there are 97 educational centers with an enrollment of 37,989 beneficiary students, and which operate under the extended day policy.


The menu for the Marginal Urban modality includes bread, cake, flavored milk, a nutritional salty and sweet biscuit and fruit nectar.


The PAE-REAL, for the morning and evening sessions, comprises green and ripe plantains, scrambled eggs, dairy product, bread with yellow cheese, cornmeal bun, rice, fried corn arepitas and oatmeal.


The PAE Border includes rice (moro of red beans, gandules and corn), sardines, milk preparation, macaroni with sausage and cornmeal bun.


Meanwhile, the menu for the extended day policy includes a daily combination of rice, grains (beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas), meats, vegetables, eggs, cod,groceries, tuna, herring and pasta, among other foods.

The School Breakfast Program is available in three modalities and it is provided to closet o a million and a half students every day
