Rules for the II Youth Competition of the Book Fair 2012:


1. –The competition is open to high school students, regardless of nationality, as long as the works are written in Spanish and completely unpublished.


2. – The categories to compete are: Poetry and Short Story.


3. – Each author may submit one entry per category. Entries must be written using Times New Romanand double-spaced, with a minimum length of 2 pages and a maximum of 8 pages for the short story category. For the poetry category the minimum length is 8 versesand the maximum is 20 verses.


4. – The works must be signed under a pseudonym and only those sent via e-mail at Concursojuvenilferia@gmail.com will be accepted.


5. – The topic for the entries is unrestricted.


6. – Together with the competing texts, contestants must submit an attachment (in Word or PDF format)containing only the pseudonym and the title of the work, and in a separate document they should also list the title, the pseudonym, the author’sname, surname, address, the school they attend and their grade level.


7. –A single and indivisible prize has been established for each category. The amount of the prize is $500.00 plus a set of books and a certificate. The jury has the power to award up to three honorable mentions in each category.


8. – The jury’s decision is final and will be announced at the closing ceremony of the V Dominican Book Fair in New York. The Dominican Cultural Commissioner in the United States reserves the right to publish an anthology of the winning texts and the honorable mentions.


9. – The jury composition will be announced at the time of the ruling. Prizes cannot be declared unassigned.


11. – The Dominican Cultural Commissioner in the United States will not return the original work to the contestants. These will be destroyed once the decision is announced.


15. – The competition will be declared officially open from the date of publication of these rules, and works will be accepted until September 20, 2012. Without exception, works submitted after that date will not be accepted.


16. – Participation in this competition automatically implies full acceptance of these rules.
