The Cultural Center of the Spanish Embassy has announced the opening of Dominican artist, Raúl Recio’s exhibition, “Watachi Wa Tek Ini” to be held on July 20.

The “Watachi Wa Tek Ini” exhibition will be open to the public Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The show is open from July 20 to September 2, 2012.

Mr. Recio will present a unique collection of as yet unseen drawings with more than 30 pieces, including his murals and bedchamber drawings from his collection known as “Watachi Wa Tek Ini.”

In this exhibition, as the artist himself says, “we can literally travel from ´Villacon´ on the subway or we can be sitting in a Venturi Vintage and from there to see a queen’s parade and men of power in a hilarious satire of modern Dominicans. “Watachi Wa Tek Ini” in street Japanese means ‘my way’ in Spanish. It is a discourse where the intimate and the wise become entwined with the daily life of the fully satisfied.”

This exhibition is being held with the collaboration of urban singer Rita Indiana, who is described as a “pedagogical choreographer similar to Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid.  Raúl polishes and shines up contemporary objects of arts from popular culture, recent Dominican urban history, the corruption, deterioration and medal-winning rescue and accumulation of palaces.

This collection of public and private disorder, this erratic archive of references wherein the mutilated legs of Gober exist beside a statue of Cassandra as they point out the self-taught schizophrenia of a country being dragged along by the hope of therapy to deal with it 20th century trauma.

The “Watachi Wa Tek Ini” exhibition will be open to the public Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The show is open from July 20 to September 2, 2012.

The address is:  Arzobispo Meriño corner with Arzobispo Pórtes, in Colonial City, Santo Domingo.
