The Dominican stage is luxuriously designed and decorated as it prepares to put one of theater’s most representative plays in recent times, “Steel Magnolias” a world-famous comedy with a moving story that captivates viewers at the very beginning until the very end. The play will open in August at the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Fine Arts Palace.


The creative team is made up of experienced people such as Fidel López, stage manager, Ernesto López, who is doing the lighting and Jusef Sánchez on costumes.


The play was written for theater by Robert Harling, which he then adapted for the screen. Julia Roberts played the leading role for which she received her first Oscar nomination.


Rights for the theater production were bought in London. Theater producer, Juancito Rodríguez said: “The role of the producer is an important figure in terms of the organization of a theater project, not only with respect to administrative questions in that the producer contributes to a more realistic and objective look at the project, without leaving aside the esthetic vision.”


The cast to of the play, to be directed by the veteran dramatist and theater director, Franklin Domínguez, is made up of Olga Bucarelli, Elvira Taveras, Karina Noble, Yanela Hernández and two of the most important figures in Dominican television, NashlaBogaert andHonyEstrella, who is also the executive producer.


The presence of the producer at the rehearsals and in the growth of the show is bigger than ever. “The theater is art, a discipline that is constantly developing, without certainties, without pragmatism. Therefore, it is important that the producer remain involved in the entire creative process of the project,” said Juancito Rodríguez.

“Steel Magnolias” is known for its rhythm of dialogues and repartee, its strength of characters and its decisive scenicaction and movements.
