Casa de las Américas, through its Caribbean Studies Research Center, is calling for applications to participate in the Caribbean Social Thought Seminar: “Half Century of De-Colonization and Independence in the English Speaking Caribbean” which will be held from Monday June 25 through Friday June 29 in Casa de las Américas between 2:00 pm and 5:00 p.m.


The seminar will provide a space for exchange and debate among invitees, speakers and participants who will discuss the importance and current trends in thought about independence and decolonization in the Caribbean region.


This colloquium, co-sponsored by Sir Arthur Lewis Social and Economic Studies, University of West Indies, is being held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the beginning of independence in the English-speaking Caribbean and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Cuba and the four countries in the region: Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago.


The seminar will provide a space for exchange and debate among invitees, speakers and participants who will discuss the importance and current trends in thought about independence and decolonization in the Caribbean region.

A certificate of accreditation will be given to those who attend three or more sessions. Others will receive a certification of accredited participation.
