The city of Santo Domingo and the Caribbean region will have a new jazz festival – the Caribbean Jazz Tour –, which is going to be an annual event. It will make its debut on Wednesday, May 2, in the “Ámbar” Hall of the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino.


This event celebrates April 30th, which UNESCO recently designated as “International Jazz Day.” Its goal is to promote the union of nations and races through music, by creating opportunities for interaction between renowned musicians from the United States, the Dominican Republic, and other Caribbean countries, which will be visited by the tour every year.

The following North American artists will be a part of the local Inaugural Tour:



  • Doug Webb – Saxophonist and Flautist
  • Corey Allen – Famous Pianist, Composer, and Arranger
  • Chuck Bergeron – Versatile and Well-known Bassist
  • Silvestre “Sly” de Moya  – Drummer / Dominican Host

Doug Webb is an excellent, first-class saxophonist and flautist. He has played with the who’s who of jazz and other genres, and has participated in more than 500 recordings. Over the course of his great career, he has played and recorded with talents such as: Quincy Jones, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Clarke, Poncho Sánchez, and Vikki Carr. Nowadays, he plays with the Doc Severinsen Big Band. He has recorded music for hundreds of movies and TV shows, including the saxophone for Lisa, a character on the popular show, The Simpsons.


Chuck Bergeron, a native of New Orleans,has worked as the double-bass player in the famous Buddy Rich Big Band, and for Woody Herman´s Thundering Herd. During his career, he has played in concerts, made recordings, and toured with jazz legends such as Stan Getz, Joe Williams, Randy Brecker, Joey Calderazzo, Jon Hendricks, Annie Ross, Dave Grusin, Patti Austin, Eddie Daniels, The New York Voices, Larry Coryell, and Dave Weckl, among others.


Corey Allen is a renowned North American musician whose vast experience covers every aspect of the music industry. He has been a pianist, composer, arranger, producer, orchestra director, and teacher. Since 1990, he has been the arranger and keyboardist for the famous jazz vocal group, “The Manhattan Transfer.” Since 1996 he has been doing the working in the same capacity for famous trumpet player Chuck Mangione’s jazz group. He also leads his own band “LA Jazz Trio.”


Silvestre “Sly” De Moya is a Dominican drummer and percussionist who, after graduating from the Berkley College of Music, has been involved in the music industry by working for several well-known music companies, such as the WEA Latina in Miami. In 2001, he created the show production company (LCP) and has promoted concerts since 2002, showcasing artists such as Chuck Mangione, Paquito D’ Rivera, Michael Camilo, Elianne Elías, Guarionex Aquino, Giovanni Hidalgo, Oscar Stagnaro, among others. In addition, he participates in other musical projects that involve local talent; his project, Sly De Moya & The Latin Bars, which has received a warm reception, occupies a preferential spot in this country, and it has had a successful run at concerts and festivals throughout the national territory. In 2011, he launched his first recording project.


The festival’s organizers said that “The 2012 Caribbean Jazz Tour is an event that represents anopportunity to expand our musical frontiers, while we support the development and enrichment of musical culture.”
