At a cocktail in the Adrian Tropical Restaurant, the movement Cursillos de Cristiandad (Short Courses of Christianity) announced the opening of the XXIII Catholic Book Fair 2012, from March 17-25 in the Casa San Pablo.

Monsignor Amancio Escapa, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo and Advisor to the Cursillo de Cristiandad (MCC in Spanish); Silvia Pereyra, coordinator of the Book Fair and Guillermo Mejía Marti, Director of the MCC, announced that the inaugural event will be on Saturday the 17th at 7:00 pm. The event will be presided over by his Eminence, the Most Reverend Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, who will be in charge of the opening words. The Christian musical group, Alfareros, will follow with a concert.

The objective of the book fair is to promote and strengthen reading, especially among children and young people. There will be some 30 exhibitors at the Book Fair.

Throughout the nine days of the Catholic Book Fair, the public will enjoy talks and speeches, afternoon choir performances, musical sessions and other family-oriented and healthy entertainment.

There will be three books launched at the Fair including one by the Archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Ramón Benito de la Rosa y Carpio. Participants in the international conferences include Salvador Gómez and Jesuit Priest, Gregorio Mateu, who will be carrying messages of hope to the Christian community.

Visitors to the Book Fair will have the opportunity to look through and buy books inspired by Christian training, education and values for spiritual growth. They will also enjoy the healthy pleasure of reading.

Other scheduled activities include book discussions, Eucharist, concerts, children’s activities, karaoke and the sale and exhibition of books.

The closing event, Sunday March 25, Christian music singer Ambiorix Padilla will put on a free concert for the whole family.

The Catholic Book Fair is free and open to the public. All cultural activities begin at 9:30 am.
