MINERD Inaugurates Fours Schools in Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez Provinces Minister de Education, Josefina Pimentel, recently inaugurated four schools in the provinces of Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez, both built at a cost of $55, 281, 393 pesos. During the first inaugural activity held in the municipality of Pimentel, Duarte province, the Minister officially opened the Casa de Alto and Bijao Schools. Later, in another ceremony, she cut the ribbon for the opening of the Arroyo al Medio and La Cruz Schools in María Trinidad Sánchez province. The four school buildings are providing 21 classrooms to the education system and will have the capacity to serve 1,820 students in early, basic and middle school. Minister Pimentel explained that Arroyo al Medio School in Nagua consists of 8 classrooms and one for early education classes. It was built at a cost of $26,303,716 pesos and will serve 630 students. The school has a kitchen, sports field, civic plaza, garden area and a perimeter fence to guarantee student safety. The Minister added that the La Cruz basic school, also located in Nagua, was built with an investment of $15,867,165 pesos and has 6 classrooms, one for early education, and will serve a student population of 490. It also has an administrative area, civic plaza and a perimeter fence made of bricks. They also have a permanent water tank installation. At El Bijao School in Duarte province, Minister Pimentel reported that the building was constructed with a budget of $8,310,511 pesos and has 5 classrooms for 350 students. There is an administration area, civic plaza and metal cyclone fence around it. Minister Pimentel said the four new schools have dual water storage systems with a water pump from an aqueduct and an underground pump to guarantee permanent water distribution. There is also a cistern with the capacity to hold 4,000 gallons of water and has an internal water distribution and pumping system. She urged the communities of Pimentel and Nagua who are benefitting from these new schools “to take care of them like the treasures they are and to keep them in good order, clean and harmonious so the quality of education can thrive. “In these schools the seed of progress is being planted and will grow and contribute to make the Dominican Republic more prosperous and will make it a place where social equality will reign for all people.” These openings brings the number to 18 schools to have been handed over by the government of President Leonel Fernández in just this year alone. There are now 81 new schools that have been opened all around the country since June 10, 2011 up to now. Others attending the school inaugurations with the Minister included Deputy Minister, William Sifres, in charge of School Buildings for MINERD; Zoila Camilo, Regional Director of District 07 of San Francisco de Macorís; Francisco Reinoso Consuegra, Regional Director of Nagua and deputies Lupe Núñez and José Luis Cosme, from the provinces of Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez, respectively, among others | ||
