The objective of the remodeling and outfitting of the school is to improve the school’s educational resources in terms of infrastructure and knowledge the library will provide the students.

Those attending the event enjoyed the artistic participation of the Children’s Choir of the Office of the First Lady as well as a performance by the school band.

At an event held in the activities hall of the Canada Elementary School in Bani, representatives of the “I Learn by Reading” program under the auspices of the Office of the First Lady (DPD in Spanish) handed the school over after having totally remodeled and fully equipped the school library.

Teresa Peralta, in charge of the program, presented the educational materials and explained that the remodeling and equipping of the library seeks to improve the resources available at the school as a way of offering the students more sources of knowledge and learning.

School Director, Altagracia Lara, thanked the First Lady, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, for contributing an adequate place that will motivate contact between students and books.

“There are many reasons why this school should be infinitely grateful to the First Lady and to say she is a person who always thinks about the well-being of students, especially in the area of education, which is the greatest gift we can give our children.”

Likewise, Anerba Oller Mitchell, a student, thanked the First Lady in the name of all the students, by reciting a poem-in-song which describes the world of books, learning and inspiration to get involved in that world.

The Library was equipped with 3 metal shelves, 3 library tables, 18 chairs, a modular table to seat six people along with 6 matching chairs, 6 computers, a desk, an office chair and a collection of books, encyclopedias, an atlas and other relevant equipment.

They also intend to install a Reading Corner for which they will receive two Kinder tables and 8 Kinder chairs, two colored bookshelves, a carpet and educational toys.

Those attending the event enjoyed the artistic participation of the Children’s Choir of the Office of the First Lady as well as a performance by the school band.

I Learn by Reading Program

The “I Learn by Reading” program began in 2005 in response to a series of joint actions carried out to promote reading and strengthen libraries.

Among its main objectives are to promote the knowledge and practice of ethical and human values through reading and creating bases to give citizens access, with no limitations, to a wide world of culture and information.
