Ministry of Culture Launches “Círculo de Espera” Book The Ministry of Culture (MINC in Spanish), recently launched the book, “Círculo de Espera”, which is a collection of stories written by the winners of the Second Baseball Stories Contest, held in 2009. The first, second and third place stories are: “Tigre y Cachorro”, by Aquiles Julián; “La Vida es Juego” by César Zapata and “Te la Comiste Vejiga” written by Rafael Peralta Romero. The award ceremony, held in the Culture Ministry Bookshop, was presided over by the writer, Basilio Belliard, director of the Ministry’s Literary Program. Writer Luis R. Santos, contest coordinator, introduced the wining books while Aquiles Julián, representing the winners, thanked the Ministry for the event and the unique competition. In his presentation, Luis R. Santos explained that the content of the book gives readers a vitally important look at the atmosphere and highlights of the nation’s most popular sport: baseball. He stressed that on each page, the book’s authors expressed their own yet diverse and singular views of the sport, as well as their talent in giving expression to the feelings and euphoria that baseball provokes in the national sensibility. “Indeed, it is well known that writers have a magic eye that captures everything that moves around them, in particular the manifestations of popular cultural which writers articulate with the precise passion that guides and stimulates the content of their writing,” explained Santos.
