Ministry of Education Inaugurates El Roblito School in Azua

A  promise made last July to build a school in the community of El Roblito, Padre Las Casas, Azua, by the Ministry of Education (MINERD in Spanish) was fulfilled last week on January 10th when a new school was inaugurated to satisfy this community’s demand to educate their children.

Minister of Education, Josefina Pimentel, oversaw the opening of El Roblito School, built with an investment of 2,988,024.14 pesos.

Minister Pimentel said the school was built thanks to the Decentralization of Funds program under the auspices of the Ministry of Education through the schools’ committees, mechanisms that promotes democracy and community participation to help schools function progressively better.

Pimentel thanked reporters Vianco Martínez, Pablo Mckinney, María Elena Núñez, Lisette Selman, Patricia Solano and other known professionals for their efforts in helping the community of El Roblito get its own school with adequate learning and teaching conditions.

Accompanying the Education Minister at this inaugural event were Deputy Ministers William Sifres, Director of School Buildings; Emilia Pereyra, Director of Communications and Public Relations; Giselle Félix, Chief of Administrative Affairs; Fernando Ogando, Director of the International Cooperation Office; Julio Peña, Director of School Maintenance and Rafaela Nova, Director of Regional 03, among other officials.

Father José Colón blessed the school then praised the Education Minister for having satisfying the wishes of the community.

Mr. Cristian Ferrera, president of the Association of Parents and Friends of the School, expressed the community’s delight with the construction of the school and thanked the authorities for their interest in improving the scholastic infrastructure of the town.

The school building has a multi-grade classroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, a fence around the entire grounds and a green space.

Faced with the need for a school building in El Roblito, last August the Education Ministry planned the school through the corresponding mechanisms, built it and hired Kiber Altagracia Soto Encarnación to teach in it. The Ministry wasted no time in meeting the community’s demand that their children not miss the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.
