Culture starts the year with Literary Marathon The Ministry of Culture held the”Letras Libres”Literary Marathon at the Culture Bookshop, located on the Las Atarazanas Street. “This space is the property of and is forDominican writers, who, besides having the opportunityto exhibit and sell their work at no cost to them, will enjoy a variety of cultural activities throughout the year,” Amaro added. The event was attended by 28 writers from Santo Domingo, who read their works during a 3 consecutive hour workshop, welcomingthe year 2012. Valentin Amaro, manager of the Culture Bookshop, announced that “starting during the secondhalf of January, the Culture Bookshop will develop cultural programming that shall include writing workshops, book presentations, lectures, meetings with writers, cinema discussions and literary gatherings.” “This space is the property of and is for Dominican writers, who, besides having the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work at no cost to them, will enjoy a variety of cultural activities throughout the year,” Amaro added. The participating writers were: Manuel Salvador Gautier, Alejandro Aguilar, AlexeiTelleria,ValentinAmaro, Luis Reynaldo Pérez, Camelia Michel, Ricardo Cabrera, FléridaGonzález, Héctor Santana, Félix Pichardo, Francis Santos, Lady Laura Liriano, AntonioReyesSena,VicenteArturo Pichardo, Aracelys Mireles, Fernando Berroa, ElayneAbreu, Romina Bayo, Moisés Santana, Adalberto Morillo, Andri Alba Pichardoand Deisy Toussaint, among others. The Culture Bookshop opened in July 2011, andover 300 titles published by the differentpublishing houses of the MINC may be bought there, as well as an extensive bibliography by Dominican authors.
