Course On Shakespeare’s The Merchant Of Venice: Taught By Dr. Ph. D. Hoyt Rogers In The Sala De La Cultura Del Teatro Nacional.
Please join us in our series on Shakespeare for 2012, an annual cycle on his plays. This year we will enjoy a masterwork about love and justice, THE MERCHANT OF VENICE.
Both courses will be given free of charge from January 10 to february 8, 2012, in the Sala de la Cultura del Teatro Nacional.
The course will be taught by Dr. Hoyt Rogers, and the lectures will be accompanied by selections from the splendid film with Al Pacino as Shylock and Jeremy Irons as Antonio. You can study the play in Spanish, English, or both languages, free of charge, under the auspices of the Teatro Nacional and the Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo. Both courses will be given free of charge from January 10 to february 8, 2012, in the Sala de la Cultura del Teatro Nacional.
Dr. Hoyt Rogers holds an A. B. (Bachelor of Arts) from Harvard University and a D. Phil. (Doctor of Philosophy or Ph.D.) from Oxford University. He is currently Professor of Comparative Literature at the Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo. The course in Spanish, translation by Luis Astrana Marín, with emphasis on Shakespeare as poet and dramatist, will be presented in five sessions, from January 10 to February 7, Tuesdays from 7 PM to 9 PM; The course in English (original text) will be presented from January 11 to February 8, Wednesdays from 7 PM to 9 PM. Both will be presented with a cinematic accompaniment in the Sala de la Cultura of the Teatro Nacional, located in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, Máximo Gómez Avenue, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
